On February 25, 2016, comrades across the country were left extremely disappointed after we failed to win the General Election. For different reasons, some 30,000 of those who voted for us in the 2011 election, never came out to support this time around. The end result being we ended up losing the election by one seat. Since then, comrades have faced different challenges. All because our Party is not in charge of the Government and some do not have a PNP MP to turn to.
The citizens of Jamaica bought into a false promise that told them to vote for a $1.5 million tax plan that would result in them getting $18,000 to take home on a monthly basis. Comrade Portia Simpson Miller and Comrade Peter Phillips told the country that this could not work the way the opponents were proposing, unless there was a significant tax package. Indeed, Comrade Peter Phillips told the country that it would cost the country over $30 billion and so said, so it has been. The Government has imposed $13.8 billion of taxes to implement this plan to date and there is plans afoot to impose another $16 billion. In all of this, it is the farmers, pensioners, mothers, fathers, taxi drivers, ordinary workers, who end up having to pay for this plan.
Well, the time has come for our PNP soldiers to correct what went wrong in February 2016. Local Government election is in the air and we have to support all our PNP councillor candidates. We will be required to go into the edges and lanes to TELL the people about the PNP and what we were doing. One by one, two by two, we all have to bring back the strayed sheepp into the fold. We told the country that we were on a solid growth path and we see from the Gleaner yesterday that this was in fact so. The economy is showing tremendous boyancy and it is because of the projects that we had put in place. We must therefore put every ounce of our being, as committed members of the PNP that we love so much, to secure victory in this election. Time come again.
